DURATION seven days/ six nights
Departure from Naples Airport Arrival at Fontanarossa Airport, Catania.A fully equipped minibus will be at the Airport Terminal to provide transportation to the agriturismo hotel previously vetted as meeting all elderly and/or disabled requirements.Guests will have ample time to unpack and freshen up before dinner is served at the hotel restaurant. After dinner is over, guests are welcome to enjoy the amenities of the hotel, take a walk in the vicinity and enjoy the magnificent night views or retire for the evening if they so wish.
Breakfast will be served at 10:00 AM at the hotel restaurant. Shortly afterwards the group will be introduced to special guest (‘Sicilian Doc’) Mr. Domenico and the local guide. First activity on the day’s itinerary will be a walk through the Historic Center which has been designated by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. Going forward, the group will be led through streets flanked by famous baroque monuments and onwards to the luxuriant public parks and gardens of Catania including Villa Bellini and the other gardens in Etna. To round out the morning walking tour, the group will enjoy the Piazza Duomo with its superb Cathedral and the nearby Royal Ursino Castle which dates back to the 13th century and was built initially for defense purposes. Lunch will be served in a restaurant situated on the breathtaking seafront.In the afternoon, a fully equipped minibus will be used to transport the group to the Calatabiano Castle, located 160 meters above sea level. The Castle was an ancient Byzantine fortress and then an Arab-Norman castle which boasts 2300 years of history and is reachable either by lift that affords panoramic views or by a fascinating road trip full of both natural wonders and memorable monuments. Finally, the group will return to the hotel and relax until dinner is served – enjoy dinner and retire for the night or have a stroll to enjoy the beautiful surroundings.
Breakfast will be served at 10:00 AM at the hotel restaurant, after which the group is scheduled to meet with the local guide. The day’s highlight will be a trip to Etna, the highest active volcano in Europe via a fully equipped minibus. Upon arrival the group will ascend by cable car, a unique and unforgettable experience. Afterwards, the group will check in at the Rifugio Sapienza regarded as the ideal starting point for Etna tours. First on the agenda is a walk to Piano Provenzano, the gateway to Etna’s quieter and more picturesque northern slopes, as well as a vantage point for views of the volcano and the Ionian Sea. On the way down, the group will make a leisurely stop at the Gorges of Alcantara, a must-see botanical and geological park, and the toning and crystal clear waters of the river Alcatraz, surrounded by an unspoiled landscape with rare flora and fauna. Dinner will be served on the seafront. Finally the group will return to the hotel to relax and retire for the night.
The group will meet at 9:00 AM for breakfast and subsequently proceed by minibus to the harbor for a boat trip along the coast to view the caves, coves and especially the Bay of Mazzaro, close up. The coastline surrounding Mazzaro is referred to as Sicily’s Million Dollar Mile and often compared to the Amalfi coast and the French Riviera. Lunch will be packed and will be followed in the afternoon by visits to the Teatro Antico, an ancient (third century BC) Greco-Roman theater still in use today, the Villa Taormina and finally a leisurely promenade to Castelmola where human presence can be traced back to at least the Bronze Age. In the evening the group will return to the hotel where dinner will be served. Time will be allocated for relaxation and guests can retire for the evening.
The group will meet at 9:00 AM for breakfast and proceed via minibus to Siracusa for “A Walk through Time.” Siracusa, with its thousand year history, encapsulates Sicily’s timeless beauty. Ancient Greek ruins rise out of lush citrus orchards; evidence of the city’s architectural and cultural heritage are ubiquitous and well preserved –among them, The Cathedral of Siracusa which was originally built as a temple to the goddess Athena. Once the largest city in the ancient world (including Athens) Siracusa was called the most beautiful Greek city by Cicero. Almost three millennia after the Corinthians landed on the island of Ortigia, remains of that settlement are highlighted in the Parco Arcologico della Neapolis. one of Sicily’s greatest archaeological sites. Ortigia, located on the waterfront, also offers an opportunity to visit the church of Santa Lucia alla Badia feauturing a Caravaggio painting behind the altar, as well as narrow lanes full of historical attractions. In the evening, the group will return to the hotel for dinner, relaxion and to retire for the night.
The group will meet at 9:00 AM for breakfast and proceed by minibus to Lido beach for another day full of sun, sea and cheer. A light lunch will be provided at the premises. At 7:00 PM, a minibus will transport the group
